Though its origins are murky, the Book of Kells is probably the finest surviving illuminated manuscript from the medieval period. With several color plates which give the reader an idea of the magnificence of the original book. --- In full maroon cloth-covered boards with representative image from the book pasted to cover, and surrounded by gilt frame.
