Dark green cloth with gilt titles and gilt decorations including a sailing ship to the spine and highly decorative shaped gilt border including and anchor surround a colour illustrated paste down of Ptolomy's map of the world. xiii,554pp. Colour frontis and 8 further colour plates including a foldout colour reproduction of the Mappa Mundi of Hereford and a double spread of Pierre Desceliers Map of the World of 1546. 16 Black and white plates. Additional integral black and white illustrations throughout. Worn to head of spine. rubbed and slightly bumped to corners. Gilt a little dull. Some uneven tanning to prelims. Plates are bright. Binding is sound. Good+, sound copy . Hardback.
