1853 Queen Elizabeth Common Prayer Bible Durer Holbein ART Illustrated Pickering
A highly desirable and important Pickering printing of the Book of Common Prayer. This 1853 first edition is a reprinting of the Queen Elizabeth Prayer Book of 1569 with each page printed with an elaborate woodcut border, engraved by Mary Byfield. This edition is generally considered by Byfield's best work and features over 100 illustrated borders that are based mainly on Hans Holbein and Albrecht Durer. According to Keynes, this work is "an important and attractive William Pickering production."
