About This Item

New York: Robert M. McBride and Company, 1926. Hardcover. First Edition. xii, 271 pp. Octavo. Original pictorial green cloth, with gilt and black design on facade and spine. Gilt lettering only on spine. Bottom edge deckled. Green top edge. Tan endpapers. Half-title included. B/W frontispiece entitled "When the Settler Came," by Charles M. Russell. 34 further B/W drawings in novel by Russell, followed by 21 halftone illustrations and a colour folding map. Errata note regarding illustrations in front. Index included, though unreferenced in content. Minor scuffing to covers and 2 internal hand stamps, otherwise a clean copy of an uncommon title. Agnes C. Laut, born in the late 19th century, was a Canadian novelist, journalist, historian, and social worker. Laut, despite her eventual immigration to the United States, remained a determined nationalist with hopes to educate others on Canadian history through her writings. Remembered not only for its resolute and passionate author, the Blazed Trail of the Old Frontier is similarly admired for its accomplished illustrator, Charles M. Russell. 1926
