Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1858. First edition thus . Hardcover. Good. Birket Foster, engraved by Edmund Evans. 8vo, pp. xxiv, 232, 64 advertising to rear, original gilt and blind decorated green cloth, the spine a little rubbed, corners mildly bumped, interior with inked owner's signature on ffep, dated October 4th '58, some incidental foxing and a few other marks to the interior, all 26 illustrations present, binding sound but with a slight lean. This is the first edition of the title with the Birket Foster illustrations and, unusually, it does not include an edition number on the title page.
