New York: Hurst & Company, Publishers Hardcover, original red cloth with peach colored end-papers. Spine stamped in black and gold. 458 pages, with shot publisher's catalog appended. Contains 46 short biographies of literary, scientific, professional, political and royal personalities which first appeared in print starting in 1852, in the Daily News. Published as the "Author's Edition", circa 1875 [but before 1877 when Martineau's autobiography was included]. Small old book-store stamp on front end-paper and very minor marks to cloth. A very good+ copy.. Reprint. Very Good+. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
