A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt bright and clean. James Mossman (1926-1971) is best known as a journalist and broadcaster, most notably perhaps for his work on BBC's 'Panorama' during the 1960s, though he was later reassigned to an arts slot owing to his acerbic interviewing style. He was the subject of 'The Reporter', a play by Nicholas Wright, directed by Richard Eyre, staged at the National Theatre in 2007. 'Beggars on Horseback' is the first of Mossman's two novels ('Lifelines' followed in 1971, the year the author took his own life).
