In Tall Cotton, 8. Howes B-238. "This account was written by an Englishman who, because of long residence in the South, was `southernized' to the extent of being a defender of slavery. He is vague as to where he lived and where he joined the Confederate army, but by inference it seems to have been Alabama. He was sent first to Corinth, Mississippi, thence by railway through Chattanooga and Lynchburg to the concentrations in northern Virginia around Manassas, and he seems to have taken part in all the principal battle from Bull Run to Fredericksburg.. he was a great admirer of Jefferson Davis [to whom this book is dedicated] and a thorough sympathizer with the Confederate cause" -Coulter 20.
