About This Item
Class Journal , 1909. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Class Journal, 1909. A precursor to road maps, the Blue Books series provided turn-by-turn directions for automobile travelers. The lack of signage and numbering systems necessitated the use of landmarks such as churches and trolley tracks for guidance. Includes a myriad of tools for the traveler including: strip maps, maps of cities, known speed traps, ferry schedules, and a list of automotive laws by state. Hundreds of advertisements for garages, mechanics, and hotels. Volume three covers New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania with directions for traveling around New England, south to Virginia, and west to Ohio. 624 pp. Bound in black leather with blue tinted pages and blue ink. Chipping to the edges, loss of leather at the foot and head of the spine. Good.
