About This Item
London: The Medici Society; The Riccardi Press, 1923. Cloth. Fine. 9.5" by 7". None. A limited edition copy of Algernon Swinburne's best early work, 'Atalanta in Calydon'. Printed by the Riccardi press, on hand-made Riccardi paper. In the original quarter cloth binding with decorative paper boards. Algernon Charles Swinburne wrote several notable poetry collections. 'Atalanta in Calydon' has been critically regarded as one of his best early works. His later poetry indulged in themes deemed taboo such as lesbianism, cannibalism, sado-masochism and anti-theism. A portion of the introduction is in Greek. This particular copy is numbered 75 of 1025 copies printed, of which 1000 were for sale. Lacking the original dustwrapper. In the original quarter cloth binding with decorative paper boards. Externally, excellent condition, with just some minor shelfwear to the spine at the head and tail, as well as to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. A few spots and light offsetting to the endpapers, otherwise clean throughout. Fine
