London: Oxford Univ Pr, 1952. Hardcover. Good/No Dust Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 325 pp. Text followed by 280 pp. b&w plates. Tightly bound. No ownership markings. Light minor ding to tip of lower right front corner. There is a light bump to the top edge of the front board right near the head of the spine. No dust jacket. Bound in blue oxford cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. This copy is the 1969 printing of the 1952 publication. This copy is smyth sewn. Smyth sewing is a method of bookbinding where groups of folded pages (referred to as signatures) are stitched together using binder thread. Each folded signature is sewn together individually with multiple stitches and then joined with other signatures to create the complete book block. This is the traditional and best method of bookbinding.
