About This Item

New York: Lark Books - A Division of Sterling Publishing Co., 2003. Eigth P[rinting . Trade Paperback. Very Good. 8 1/2" X 10. 160 Pages Indexed. Very light wear to cover edges. Interior text pages are flawless. Beads can be found on clothing, lamp shades, coasters, shoes, tassels, purses, napkins, belts, hats, pillows, cards, jewelry and more. The beads used throughout this book are mainly seed beads of different sizes, shapes, and color. A few of the projects do use larger trim beads, but usually as embellishment only. When you're buying seed beads, you'll find the larger the number the smaller the bead. For example, a size 15/0 bead is much smaller than a size 6/0 bead and there are slight differences one manufacturer to another . The shape may be slightly different but round is the most popular. The more you use beads, the more you'll understand what you need to buy for a specific project. Seed beads are made from glass. They start out either transparent or opaque, then either the outside or the inside surface can be treated to change the look of the bead. Many of the surface treatments are then combined to produce beads such as transparent matte iris, semi-matte silver-lined, or matte metallic. Some of these surface treatments won't hold up over time due to friction, body chemistry, light, or chemicals. Learning all of the nuances can seem overwhelming, so just take it one bead at a time. Know what you're buying. The best way to do this is to buy from someone who knows what they're selling. Support your local bead store.
