In his later life, Stillman became an important figure in the development of Southern California's wine industry. An attractive production illustrated with a frontispiece portrait, a map on the front endpapers, and drawings and engravings from the collections of the San Francisco Maritime Museum, the Peabody Museum, and the Bancroft Library of the University of California.
