Edinburgh: Edmonston and Douglas, 1872. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 2 volumes. Small 4to., xxi, [1], [1], errata, 274p.; vi, 344p., 5 plates. Original half green morocco over burgundy buckram boards with gilt impressed designs to the front of each board, and gilt titling to the spines. Board corners are worn, light rubbing to the edges and the leather heavily rubbed around the spine joints and ends. All edges gilt, bookplate to the paste-downs and endpapers in each volume, with a gift inscription to the first blank in volume one. Top right corner of the text block stained right at the edges, margins only, throughout about half of the first volume. With black and white in-text illustrations throughout and 5 plates.
