A first edition of Ingrams's account of the southern Arabian peninsular, illustrated with the author's photographs, and with folding maps. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. 31 plates, including the frontispiece, of monochrome photographs taken by the author. 2 folding maps to the rear. Collated complete. An account of the Hadramaut of the southern Arabian peninsular, then part of the Aden Protectorate and now of Yemen. Harold Ingrams (1893-1977), colonial administrator, was appointed resident advisor in 1937, based in Mukalla. He made journeys of exploration into the interior and negotiated a truce between warring tribes. Before his arrival in Aden, he describes life in Zanzibar, where he had also served as a colonial officer. Foreword by Bernard Reilly, formerly of of the British Indian army, who served in the colonial administration of Aden from 1908 and was the first governor of the territory, 1937-40. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little bumping to the upper extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, though roughly cut.
