About This Item

Boston: Small, Maynard & Company, 1923. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. First edition. Contemporary owner's name in pencil on front fly, else fine in very good dustwrapper with a chip at the crown affecting a few letters in the title. Beginning in 1913, Braithwaite, an African-America poet, devoted himself for 17 years to publishing his anthology, the most consistent poetry anthology in America. This volume contains Braithwaite's usual excellent assemblage of poets including Claude McKay, William Alexander Percy, E.E. Cummings, Wallace Stevens, Louise Bryant, Louise Bogan, Vachel Lindsay, Hart Crane, H.D., Max Eastman, Glenway Wescott, John Peale Bishop, and others.
