1497 Clusa Souls of the Dead Ghosts Occult Poltergeist Incunable SPIRITUALISM
Incunabula with instructions on speaking to the dead!
Jacobus de Clusa, also thought to be called Jacob of Jüterbogk, was a 14th-century Cistercian monk who was the author of a number of theological treatises on morality, the ecclesiastical canon, and an interesting work on the state of the human soul after death – 'De Animabus Exutis a Corporibus'. Clusa states that the soul is not always in an incarnate, physical form and discusses ways to communicate with lost souls.
According to Koslofsky, Clusa wrote this book in response to various hauntings that monks experienced in a nearby monastery. This treatise is one of the earliest printed works to discuss poltergeists, ghosts, and speaking with spirits from both Heaven and Hell. It should be noted, though, that Clusa included these instructions so that living people could speak with their loved lost ones – i.e. husbands and wives, etc.
This incredibly rare incunabula printing was published in Nuremberg; and, according to the ISTC, was printed in 1497. The ISTC also notes that only 3 examples of this book are known to exist in institutional holdings in the United States, and the only copy in the UK is in the British Library – none for sale! An exceedingly rare book on 15th-century spiritualism!

Saint Venerable Bede was an English monk during the 7th- and 8th-centuries. He is most remembered for his ecclesiastical work on the history of English people, in which he discusses the establishment and growth of the church throughout the known world. He also wrote important commentaries on the books of the Bible. This work explains relevant Biblical passages, as well as describes the allegorical notes of Church Fathers. However, he did not write exclusively of church theology. He also wrote on the development of time and ideas of cosmology.
This 16th-century Latin edition was published in Paris by Roigny. An impressive, three-volume folio set!
