London : John W. Parker and Son, 1858. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7" by 4.5". None. A smart first edition copy of this collection of poems by poet and social reformer Charles Kingsley. A first edition copy of Charles Kingsley's anthology Andromeda and Other Poems. Charles Kingsley was a broad church priest of the Church of England, poet and social reformer with Andromeda being one of his best known poems. This anthology includes Andromeda, songs and ballads, poems connected with 1848-9 and a collection of Kingsley's early poems. Some of the poems included in the volume are The Starlings, The Night Bird and A Hope. With a bookplate for Percival F. Hinton, who was a local historian and scholar of Birmingham with a keen interest in poetry, to the front free endpaper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some fading to the spine and some light marks to the boards. Some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. With a bookplate for Moutlon Grange to the front pastedown and for Percival F. Hinton. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good
