About This Item

London England: Century, 1991. Hardback. First Edition. Tiny tear to top edge of spine of D/J. As a child the young prodigy ran away from his native Berlin while Nazi stormtroopers marched by his home. His father, a wealthy and highly successful barrister, and his mother, a woman who had never learned to boil an egg, fled, first to France and then to America, where the elder Previn scraped a living as a piano teacher. Young Andre found an unorthodox school of music - Hollywood. He got a job at MGM and by the time he was 20 had already been nomited for his first Oscar; he heard about it digging ditches in the American Army. By his early thirties he had four Oscars to his name. He was also established as one of America's finest Jazz pianists. Following a series of Hollywood romanced, he married fourt times - to jazz singer Betty Bennett, to songwriter Dory Previn, to film star Mia Farrow, and to Heather, to whom he has been happily married for more than a decade. Previn himself has spent six months with the author, telling his intimate story, its orchestral triumphs and private tragedies, with the wit for which TV audiences know him so well, and making available papers and photographs spanning sixty years. Illustrated. 312 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardback.
