AN AMERICAN MERCHANT IN EUROPE, ASIA, AND AUSTRALIA: A Series of Letters from Java, Sinagpore, China, Bengal, Egypt, The Holy Land, The Crimea and its Battle Grounds, England, Melbourne, Sydney, etc. etc. New York: G. P. Putnam & Co., 1857. xxi + 512 pp. 8vo., brown cloth stamped in gilt, red and blind with globe on spine. Corners gently bumped, spine sunned, light wear and slight fraying to heel and crown, else a very nice copy. Pale green endpapers. Moderate foxing in the text. Train was a Boston merchant who among his travels settled in Melbourne, Australia and founded there the "prosperous house" of George F. Train and Co. (from the introduction by Freeman Hunt).
