Ex-library with markings on preliminary pages only, glue stains on front endpapers, spine sunned with ends rubbed, a good only copy lacking the dust jacket. An exceptionally uncommon title, Wilson's essays, reportage, and reflections on the Great Depression, which doesn't seem to have gotten very wide distribution.

Literary critic and author Malcolm Cowley's copy with his penciled bold ownership signature on the front fly, and several passages in the book marked by him. An uncommon title, Wilson's essays, reportage, and reflections on the Great Depression, which doesn't seem to have gotten very wide distribution.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1932. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. Red cloth gilt. Spine a bit soiled and rubbed, a paperclip shadow on the front pastedown and facing page, a very good copy lacking the dustwrapper. Inscribed by the author: "To Louise Croly, with the affectionate regards of Edmund Wilson. April 1932." Croly was the wife of Herbert Croly, the dean of American progressives who had been Wilson's editor at *The New Republic*. An exceptionally uncommon title, Wilson's essays, reportage, and reflections on the Great Depression, which doesn't seem to have gotten very wide distribution. We've never seen another signed copy.
