Uniformly bound in blue-green gilt decorated & illustrated publisher’s bindings, Arts & Crafts motif of ears of corn w/ decorative borders, t.e.g. (slight shelfwear, very slight occasional foxing to fore-edges of textblocks, w/o ffeps.), w/ blue-green linen paper-backed d.j.s. (minor shelfwear), VG-/NF set. First edition of this beautiful set intended to present a comprehensive view of the history, biography, picturesque attractions, productions, peculiarities, and important features of the American Republic up through the end of the 19th century. Cook describes his travels to the Northeast, the Great Lakes by way of Chicago, New York, Virginia, Florida, and then Yellowstone Park, and finally an excellent account of trekking to the Alaska to visit the gold fields, and return to San Francisco.
