Presentation copy, with small card stating, "With the Compliments of the Author" laid in. 6 1/2" x 8 1/2". Boards. Illustrated from 23 black and white photographs selected by the author. Lillian Ross, a prolific writer, was preparing a Profile of Adlai Stevenson for The New Yorker, but she abandoned the project when Stevenson died. Instead, she wrote this "rare and durable" memoir. A Near Fine (shadow of a missing paper clip--which may have affixed the presentation card--on a front free endpaper) in a Near Fine (some minor edgewear and soiling) dust jacket, now in a clear mhylar protective sleeve.
