Some looseness to binding, notably at frontis where frontis and tissue guard have separated from sewn binding. Pages with some wear and aging, particularly spotting to endpapers and edges. Illustrations present and intact, but with some age spotting. This is most notable to the frontispiece. Green cloth hardcover with scuffs and wear, bumped corners and some splitting to cloth at edges (please see scanned image of spine). Plum Adirondack Bibliography number 1003. Please see image. 1st edition of this Adirondack classic. 288 pages. NOTE ON EDITIONS: Joel Tyler Headley published 4 editions of this work in the 19th century. The 1st (1849 - reprinted 1853 and 1861) and 2nd (1864) by Baker and Scribner, with 288 pages. The 3rd (1869) and 4th (1875 - reprinted 1882) editions were "New and Enlarged" with 18 additional chapters, published by one of the variously named successor Scribner companies. There have also of course been many modern reprints by other publishers. You can tell the edition and printing by the date on the bottom of the title page. This is the first printing of the first edition.
