With the owner inscription of noted Egyptologist Samuel A. B. Mercer, 1929 on the inside first free end paper. Mercer was present at the opening of King Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Spine is sunned, head of spine is pulled and a bit frayed, extremities bit rubbed. Another owner's name stamp, along with normal library marks on the interior and library marks at bottom spine. Withdrawn stamp. Otherwise interior is clean and unmarked, paper toned but strong and handsome. The 188 page introduction explains the term Metatron, the Angelology of 3 Enoch, the quasi-physical aspects of the Divine Letters and Names, the fate of the spirits and souls, performance of celestial songs, and the Divine Judgement. Pages 1-179 are translation and notes. Pages 1-74 are Hebrew text with critical notes, and the final 36 pages are the indexes. The first critical edition of Enoch, a landmark of scholarship, extraordinarily scarce in this first edition, with the lovely touch of the book having been owned by Mercer. ; Ex-Library; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
