First edition. 4to; xix [iii], [1] 2-562pp; full leather, 4 bands on spine with gilt-stamped lettering; marbled endpapers; copper-plate engraved frontispiece with tissue guards and 13 additional plates; cracking at joints without separation, light shelf-wear, clean and bright interior; very good plus. Jared Sparks (1789-1866) was an American historian and author with a long list of life accomplishments including President of Harvard University, editor of the North American Review, Unitarian minister and founder of a prominent Unitarian Universalist church in Baltimore, member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Antiquarian Society, and American Philosophical Society.
