THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X

Malcolm X

NY: Grove Press, 1965. 3rd Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. illustrated. This is the Copyright 1965 Stated Third Printing of THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X. Alex Haley assisted the author in the writing of the book, and also wrote its Epilogue, and it was published in an octavo by Grove Press in New York. It contains (xviii) + 455 pages, including an Introduction by M. S. Handler, and sandwiched between pages336 and 337 is a suite of 16 pages of 32 black & white photos. The book is bound in black cloth and titled in gilt on the spine, and other than the spotting to the top edge, it is in Near Fine condition, with the only writing on the inside is the printed price of "$7.50" on the front free endpaper in erasable ink. The glossy white dust jacket has a sepia photo of Malcolm X on the front panel, and is printed in red and black on both panels and the spine, AND the front flap is NOT clipped and still retains the printed price of $7.50, the same price as the First Printing, making this dust jacket identical to that of the First Edition. There is light spotting/foxing to the endpapers, and there is a related straight light brown line on them where the edges of the dust jacket flaps end, when the book is closed. There is also some spotting to the top edge of the text block, and the dust jacket is in an exceptionally clean state, with just a little light occasional bumping along the edges, and two 1/8" tears in the top of the DJ spine, and another clean 1/3" tear along the top edge of the front panel. There are also a few tiny chips/tears at the bottom of the spine and rear flap fold, and the top edge of the verso of the jacket has spotting. Not only is the jacket not price-clipped, but it has the same "$7.50" printed price as the first printing. The binding of the book is NOT bumped or rubbed in ANY manner, and there is no writing inside the book. In fact, the original, erasable stamped price of "$7.50" also appears on the upper right corner of the front free endpaper! An exceptional copy of this early printing.

Autobiography Of Malcolm X

Malcolm X

Penguin UK, 2007. Paperback. New. They called him the 'angriest black man in America' . . . Celebrated and vilified the world over for his courageous but bitter fight to gain for millions of black men and women the equality and respect denied them by their white neighbours, Malcolm X inspired as many people in the United States as he caused to fear him. His remarkable autobiography, completed just before his murder in 1965, ranges from Omaha and Michigan to Harlem and Mecca, and tells of a young, disenfranchised man whose descent into drug addition, robbery and prison was only reversed by his belief in the rights struggle for black America, and his conversion to the Nation of Islam. Not only is this an enormously important record of the Civil Rights Movement in America, but also the scintillating story of a man who refused to allow anyone to tell him who or what he was.SKU: MM-40001908; EAN: 9780141032726
