Roth, 1933-2018, was an American novelist and short story writer, best known for his wit and irony as well as his non-heroes depicting contemporary Jewish identity. Goodbye, Columbus was his first book and won the National Book Award in 1959. He was one of the leading authors of his generation.

Synopsis

A Philip Roth Reader is a selection of writings by Philip Roth first published in 1980 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, with a revised version reprinted in 1993 by Vintage Books. Both editions include selections from Roth's first eight novels while the newer edition also includes the previously uncollected story "Novotny's Pain", alongside the essay-story "Looking At Kafka".
