Softcover has strong binding, light top spine edge wear to paper, slight dust soil to rice paper. No names or foxing, tho some illustrations have left shadows on opposing pgs. Brown silk book cover is on hard board, w/black wraps to tie book closed. Wraps are torn, some spine edge/corner rub/wear to silk. Contents: The Veiled Profit of Khorassan, Paradise and the Peri, The Fire Worshippers, The Light of the Harem. Over 100 illustrations. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Original Wraps. Wilkes Barre PA: Robert Baur & Sons, 1889. Two works of poetry in one volume. Gray hard cover has maroon deco cover of Native American family w/floral edge border, apprx. 200 pgs. Strong binding, w/age soil, sunned spine, previous owner dedication dtd 1889 fep. Author was a Lawyer from Bucks County PA. The First poem, Frances Slocum, has references to the Susquehanna. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.

Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Co, 1881. Octavo. 311pp., inscribed by the author to J. Rogers Kees dated 1882, also containing a tipped in manuscript letter from author J.Westby-Gibson to J. Rogers Kees discussing the poet Aldrich. Rees authored several books such as; The pleasures of a book-worm; The brotherhood of Letters; The diversions of a book-worm, etc. Mr. Westby-Gibson authored books on poetry and shorthand and was a huge contributor to the DNB(Dictionary of National Biography.) and he review books as well. Mounted to the front fly leaf are two news articles written by Aldrich, Oliver W. Holmes and Walt Whitman on the subject of the American Tariff Bill which in effect would reduce the duty on printed matter from 25 per cent to fifteen percent which they were against. A good copy bound in brown cloth over beveled boards stamped in gilt, chipping or wear through at spine ends and corners, rear inner hinge just starting, some pencil notes to front endpaper.

Terry Schupbach-Gordon: "A periodic cicada spends 13 or 17 years underground as a nymph. They have appeared in literature since the days of Homer and Aristotle. In song the cicada is a symbol of survival. In mythology, Zeus turned Tithonus into a cicada when he asked for immortality. In this poem by R.W. Rhodes, they scamper, climb, and fly with the wings given them by Toby Gordon."

Contributors to this issue include John Ashbery, Eileen Myles, Tony Towle, Barbara Guest, Paul Violi, William Corbett, Michael Palmer, Ann Kim, and many others.
Besides Winkfield's illustrations for the front and back covers, there are also drawings by Rae Berolzheimer, Michael Madore, and Vicki Hudspith (who also has an accompanying poem).
A nice collaboration between artists and poets, one of the hallmarks of the Poetry Project. SCARCE.
CONDITION: Some soiling to the covers and a few small nicks, especially on the rear cover. A Very Good copy.

Lincoln, NE, and Albuquerque, NM: Bent Quoin Press. Limited Edition . Stapled Wraps. Very Good. 24mo. 1953, 1958, 1959. Illustrated paper wrappers, 16, 16, 8 pp. Three very scarce self-published poetry chapbooks (there were five altogether) by the soon-to-be editor of the Wormwood Review. "Cockerel's Crop" limited to 50 copies, with copies 1-12 signed; this copy marked "Review copy, 7/10," but not signed; "Two Over Twice Equals Sixteen" limited to 100, with 1-20 signed; this one marked "Author's copy 6/10," but also unsigned; "Conversation Peece*," 100 copies, with 1-20 signed; this copy no. 3 and signed "M. Malone." This latter also has one correction in ink in the poet's hand. Malone produced "Cockerel" in Lincoln, the other two in Albuquerque. Wrappers of all three just a bit sunned, "Cockerel" wrapper creased at one corner and edgeworn, "Twice Over" lightly bumped at corners.

Universidad Nacional Autonomo Mexico, Mexico, 1945; First Edition; 8vo; 218 pages; printed stiff wraps. Translation into Spanish, from primary source Conquest era Nahuatl documents, of a corpus of mythic poems and narratives of the Nahua peoples, authored by eminent scholar and linguist of prehispanic cultures Angel Maria Garibay (1892-1967). Lengthy 54 page introduction by the author is followed by 146 pages of text and substantive background notes, a 12 page bibliography, and 6 page index. Very Good Plus, clean, bright, no previous signatures or any other markings of any kind. Rare in complete first edition.

Fourth issue of this rare avant-garde literary journal co-edited by Richard Meyers prior to his musical exploits as Richard Hell. Includes a stapled-in concrete piece by Joel Fisher, plus work from a range of contributors. Numeral notation to cover (no other markings), stain at top edge, the Fisher piece attachments have some staple rust; sound overall.
