An utterly charming Lilliputian-scaled later edition of Swift's enduring literary classic, measuring 3" w x 5 1/2" h, bound in half-calf over marbled boards, matching marbled end pages and edges of the page block, red leather label at spine with gilt title. Two frontis plates by C. Warren, sculp., the 1st "The Lilliputian Army at the Command of the Emperor Marching between Mr. Gulliver's legs", and the title page, "Mr. Gulliver's first sight of the Flying Island". With 8 total plates including a map frontis Vol. I, a chart, a facsimile document, a building view, and 4 plan plates. Prior owner name and "Palazzetto Borghese, 1847" front end page Vol. I. Very Good, boards soiled, moderate toning to end pages, internally clean and bright. Originally published in London in 1820, and SCARCE in either edition, and especially so finely bound. Frontis, title, xvi & 384 pp. Bound in full contemporary mottled calf nicely rebacked in keeping,red leather label and five raised bands, with gilt lettering and rules, gilt tail date, gilt rules to covers, newer end papers that are fresh and clean. Near Fine, top edge soiled, toning to frontispiece and title page. Internally clean and unmarked, the text fresh and bright. A quite handsome and solidly bound copy. Second Edition, Corrected. Handsomely bound in unsigned contemporary half polished calf over marbled boards, two black morocco labels and elaborate gilt tooling to spine, marbled end papers. Illustrated with 280 wood engravings. The illustrations were first devised by the author, then drawn by William Harvey, and then engraved on wood by John Johnson at the Apollo Press. Very Good, period prior owner name dated 1828 front end page,spine evenly sunned, 3 small rubs front cover bottom corner, small rubs at tips, scattered light toning throughout. . First Edition. Two volumes in half crushed brown morocco over pale green buckram, the backs gilt, marbled end papers, top edge gilt. tiny rubs at corners else Fine, a handsome set. Lauriat's was a prominent Boston bookseller, in business for 127 years until closing in 1999. Charles E. Lauriat, Jr., who ran the company after his father, was a survivor of the sinking of the Lusitania in 1914. . Later American Edition. Half Morocco. Three volumes in unsigned contemporary polished calf, ornate gilt backs with black and brown morocco labels, end papers and edges gilt, the ticket of 1850's San Francisco bookseller Marvin & Hitchcock at front end pages, likely their binding. Very Good, the boards soiled, small rubs at corners, moderate toning at end papers with some light toning scattered throughout. 6 1/2" tall, a set quite pleasing to hold. . Aldine Edition. Two volumes in publisher's original green cloth with Art Deco gilt decorations and lettering, top edge gilt, Near Fine, the spines a shade toned, rear end papers in both volumes with some browning, the Arts and Crafts bookplates of Clinton Larue Hare and Marea Fletcher Ritzinger Hare front paste downs. Clinton L. Hare was an early football coach at Butler University (1887-1889), Purdue (1890) and DePauw University (1891). A quite lovely set of this charmingly illustrated edition. . Paris: Isidore Liseux , 1876. Collated on the first edition, Paris 1588. SCARCE, and especially so in fine binding. Beautifully bound in later half brown morocco over speckled morocco, gilt back, top edge gilt, marbled end papers. Fine, the binding signed Y. Chobel(?). Gift inscription in French, dated 1945, at front end page. In Fine brown cloth covered custom slipcase. A quite lovely little book ! . Later Edition. Morocco. Fine. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Paris: Chez Audibert, 1814. 1st Edition . Leather Bound. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavo. xii, 334 pages. Hardcover bound in quarter leather with blue patterned paper-covered boards. Binding is rubbed and bumped with some scuffing on the boards. Hinges are secure. All edges marbled. Several pencil markings as well as a small library ink stamp on the title page. A piece of paper was laid between the title page and the Preface page, resulting in heavy browning on the Preface. The browning also affect the title page and a few pages after. The text is toned with occasional foxing. Text is in French. The title translates to "Of the Colonies and Particularly that of Saint-Domingue; Historical and Political Memory."
