1650 1ed Execution Charles I Defensio Regia Saumaise French Royalist Civil War

Claude Saumaise was a 17th-century French scholar known for his editions and commentary of classical works and Greek anthologies. However, he also published a defense of Charles I of England following his execution. Curiously, Saumaise's 'Defensio Regia' takes on a thoroughly royalist agenda, even from a Frenchman, and Charles II even helped publish the book. This book even inspired John Milton who published his own piece of political propaganda that covered the events of Charles I and II.

Abel Boyer was a 17th-century English historian who is regularly remembered for his account of the life and reign of Queen Anne of England. It was in his 'History of Queen Anne' that he describes proceedings in British Parliament, royal speeches, as well as political debates. This 1729 'anonymous' edition is still credited to Boyer; however, according to the ESTC it was edited and collected by an author simply named Gibson. This work is without question one of the best 18th-century examples of biographies of Queen Anne, especially considering the inclusion of commentary on the political and diplomatic state of England from the Reformation to Queen Anne's death in 1714.

Antoine Varillas was a French historiographer who is remembered for his numerous historical accounts of French royals such as King Louis XI, Louis XII, Henri II, and even Saint Louis.Unfortunately, his writings received little recognition. As a result, his scholarly reputation was negatively impacted. Initially having high hopes, his works failed to reach the status he had desired during his lifetime. It was not until much later that the public would show interest in his writings.
In 1685, Varillas' book on the lives and reigns of Saint Louis, Louis XI, and Henri II was published in La Haye.

1756 Crebillon Japanese Tanzai et Neadarne anti-Catholic Cardinal de Rohan
Claude Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon was an 18th-century French author. While most of his works are relatively unknown today, one of his most controversial works was 'Tanzai et Neadame'. This work, which has become incorrectly titled as 'L'ecumoire Histoire Japonaise', was a satire on the life and work of Cardinal de Rohan. Ultimately, this book landed Crebillon in prison for his attacks on the Unigenitus papal bull and the Catholic Church.
