This is a tight sound copy with the only flaws being: the bottom corners are lightly bumped and the spine is lightly faded. This yearbook was published on a one time basis, and there are no preceding or subsequent editions of its kind. It is regarded as a separate product from the Britannica Book of the Year which was first published in 1938. Photo on request. 1854. ANDREWS, L[orrin]. GRAMMAR OF THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE. Honolulu: Printed at the Mission Press, 1854. [2],156 pp. 8vo., side-sewn, brown cloth back with flexible textured-paper sides. Ink ownership at ffep. This copy is without the folding table, which was apparently not issued in all copies. Leaves are increasingly browned within the text block as they progress toward the center of the volume, though they are all easily readable, with light to heavy foxing in margins throughout, and some slightly bent corners. The cloth has largely worn away at spine; the sides are rubbed and creased at fore-corners. Nonetheless, this is a very good copy of a rare early Hawaiian grammar and imprint. (Judd 324). Andrews (American, 1795-1865) arrived in Hawaii as a missionary in 1828 and he remained there the rest of his life. Finely bound in period style mid twentieth century full brown calf. Boards with single gilt ruled borders. Spines with double ruled gilt bands and lettering. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers with a neat previous owners bookplate mounted in each volume. All edges marbled. An attractive copy.

The cover of this book has much wear. A binding was added later as well as pads for the corner's of the book. the previous owners names are written on the inside of the front cover and on the top of the third blank page. The pages are yellowing and tanning. The edges of most of the pages are worn. 1780 Japanese Chinese Language Dictionary Mori Teisai 5v Woodblock Print

An interesting Edo woodblock-print of a Chinese Dictionary titled 'An Enlargement of All and Four Voices.' The Chinese Dictionary is used as a means of expanding the linguistic pursuits of the Japanese in the 1700s originally published in 1736. The book is organized by typical Chinese year symbols of dragon, snake, and others.

This rare 1780 edition is written in a column handwritten format with furigana usage for easier reading!

Xantes Pagnino was a 15th-century Dominican friar known for his studies in biblical philology. While his edition of the Hebrew Bible is considered his best work, he published a biblical thesaurus which was written to aid in the reading of the Hebrew texts. Contemporary full calf, except for the damaged illustrated frontis, contents are complete and are in fine condition. The text is very legible, internally in remarkable condition for a book that is 300 years old!
By repute, this volume has a distinguished provenance. It was gifted by the Harley family (founders of the 'medical' Harley Street, London) to William Dalrymple (17 August 1772 – 5 December 1847) who was an English surgeon. He learned his trade in London and practised in Norwich, initially from his father's house and later in the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. He received attention for successfully performing the then rare operation of tying the carotid artery.
Abel Boyer was probably born on 24 June 1667 at Castres, in Upper Languedoc, southern France.
