Delicious recipes, both gourmet and simple, from the BBC’s popular Masterpiece Theater television series Upstairs, Downstairs, which featured Bellamy family cook, "Mrs. Bridges." Arranged by categories making up the Edwardian menu: Stocks and Sauces; Soups; Fish; Game and Poultry; Meat; Vegetables; Desserts, Puddings, and Savouries; and Bread, Cakes, and Pastry. Each category is further divided into elegant "Upstairs" recipes, and the more hearty "Downstairs" fare. Enlivened with substantial personal details about the various members of the Bellamy household, and illustrated with numerous on-set production photos by John Hedgecoe, plus 70 drawings picturing Edwardian utensils, methods of serving and carving, etc. Fine, in a Near Fine dust jacket that has not been price-clipped. A very nice copy of a unique and mouthwatering cook book.

A New Edition, corrected. 12mo, a frontispiece and eight engraved plates (of nine - lacking plate 6), pp lii, 354, a little age-toning and very slight foxing, the frontispiece is slightly offset on to the title page, but overall remarkably clean and tight internally, recently bound in a simple brown half calf and cloth, very good. [First published in 1805, it was a huge success and several editions followed; the book sold around half a million copies in Rundell's lifetime. The book was aimed at middle class housewives. In addition to dealing with food preparation, it offers advice on medical remedies and how to set up a home brewery and includes a section entitled "Directions to Servants". The book contains an early recipe for tomato sauce - possibly the first - and the first recipe in print for Scotch eggs. Rundell also advises readers on being economical with their food, and avoiding waste.]. Half-Leather. Very Good.

Elyria, OH 8vo size softcover with large plastic spiral binding; 348 pages with separate recipe index. Original artwork for cover and divider pages by John Rodak. Recipes are "signed" with name of contributor, but there is no index of contributors. The book is typescript (you can see some errors and strikethroughs.) The separate index, also typescript appears to be a photocopy. Two folded pages of 8.5x11 inch white paper are folded in half widthwise and make up the eight-page index. It is tucked into the book. This is a 48 page pamphlet covered by two saddle-stitched boards serving as dust jackets, with the front board illustrated. There is no publication date. Only a 1939 copyright, which we assume corresponds to the publication date. Interesting recipes and very nice small illustrations by Kellum throughout the book.Pages, pamphlet covers, and wooden covers are all in excellent condition. The only fault we could fine is that the upper ribbon tie (the ties seem to be original with the book) is frayed and probably needs to be replaced.

Octavo, pp xxxii, 601,(i), the endpapers, half-title, title page and index pages are foxed, occasional light foxing throughout, a stain from an insertion on the rear endpaper, a mark on the rear blank, a newspaper inserion on the front blank, otherwise just generally slightly worn internally, half calf and marbled boards, but fairly recently rebacked with a new cloth spine, the corners strengthened. [With the signature of Dr Charles Knight - almost certainly the public servant and botanist who emigrated to New Zealand - and with his neat pencilled notes on the pages devoted to melons.]. First Edition. Quarter cloth. Good.

1897 hardcover as pictured. Binding is loose with front endpapers detached. Maroon cloth boards with gold and black stamping are soiled and very worn with fraying at head and tail of spine and at corners. Both hinges cracked with the front board partially detached. As noted above, front free endpapers are detached but the remainder of the text block is intact. Edge of text block and several pages are splattered.
