NOT FOR SALE." on the copyright page of each volume. In all other respects such copies are identical to normal first editions, including the $6.00 price on the dust jacket flap. Such presentation copies are quite scarce. (See Langworth p.319 for further details.) Here is Volume Two only. Condition is near-fine+ in a very good correct first printing dust jacket. The binding is clean, tight, and square with bright gilt and virtually no wear. The contents are pristine - crisp and bright with no spotting and no previous ownership markings. This booklet contains the first printed appearance of Churchill's speech of 14 October 1950 at the 71st Annual Conservative Party Conference. Five years earlier, Churchill's Conservatives had been soundly defeated in the General Election at the end of the war. Churchill would head opposition to the Labour Government until the General Election of 1951, which returned the Conservatives to majority and Churchill to the office of Prime Minister. At the 71st Annual Conservative Party Conference, Churchill addressed a mass meeting of more than 5,000 representatives in the Empress Ballroom, Winter Gardens, Blackpool, at the conclusion of the Conference on Saturday, 14 Ocober, at 2:30 PM. SIGNED JUSTICE R on the front free end page and thus signed by author Rayne; as Dictrict Commissioner, Rayne was directly responsible to the governor for the administration of justice (divorce, marriage, thievery, homicide) in Ziala District, a region in the north-west of then British Somalia.  This is the first edition of a scarce book that gives an insight into colonial administration in British Somalia early 1900s. Book finishes with an account of author's dealings with the Mad Mullah (1919). That Was the first occasion on which the RAF was used for colonial policing. Group Captain Gordon led a squadron of twelve De Havilland DH9s, transported on HMS Ark Royal.  Book is in GOOD plus condition with 12 plates. The frontispiece is tissue-protected. Note rubbing on spine.

This lovely little volume is in good condition considering its age. Binding is rubbed and scuffed in places, corners rounded and bumped, pages are foxed and stained from age (see images). Outer spine slightly cracked along one top edge. The hinge is loose but in tact, a very readable copy. Marbled endpapers. There are two ink names and an inscription on FFEP.

They both are listed as VOLUME I but each covers two different periods in English history (period one and period two). Hardcovers quarter bound in dark blue cloth with light blue cloth covered boards. Bindings are spotted, have scuffing, light foxing. The period one book has a gouge to the fore-edge of the rear board. The period two book has a dark stain mark at the top of the front board. All edges of text blocks are gilt. The gilt is dulled, Marbled endpapers. Text has light toning. Some pages are smudged. Photographs throughout.
