Housed in 2.25 x 3.75" tin box with hinged lid. Tipped on illustrated title label on exterior lid. Colophon tipped in. A series of three books regarding pets: "Small Book of Birds, Bunnies, & More"; "Small Book of Cats;" and, "Small Book of Dogs." No words, just illustrations of hopping bunnies, dancing cats, and jumping dogs. Each book with flap feature showing hidden items like a bone. Stephanie Copoulos-Selle, colophon: "Pets become an important part of our families. This book is dedicated to Alice, Cammy, and Midnight.

New York: The University of the State of New York State Museum, 1916. Reading copy with much wear and tear. Full page color plates by L.A. Fuertes. Marginalia lovers dream. It appears that the owner of this book used it to document in almost diary form throughout book what appears to be more than 20 years of bird watching from 1931 to 1953 with dated notes throughout: on blank pages, reverso of plates, etc, even laid in sheets. Book has numerous flaws with serious wear and tear to cloth covers. Cloth is peeling from front boards and there is a split the length of front spine. Shaken. Multiple sheets laid in front of book were cello taped and are now loose and the cello tape has left a dark stain. There is evidence on about six pages in front of insect or rodent nibbling on bottom corner (these are actually laid in lone pages, not pages from the actual book.) SIGNED. 723pp. Thick quarto [26 cm] Green textured cloth over boards with gilt stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Color frontispiece illustration with a tissue-guard printed in black. Very good. Mildly rubbed and bumped at the extremities. The first several pages have a few names from previous owners. The pages are clean. Illustrated with Paintings by Allan Brooks, George Miksch Sutton, Roger Tory Peterson and Terence Michael Shortt. Warmly inscribed on the date of publication by the author on the half title page: "To the _______, who live in the paradise of Cave Canyon, this volume is inscribed with the esteem and best wishes by the author who is grateful for their aid in his mountain studies - Herbert Brandt, November 10, 1951, Publication date, Copy number 22." He has personally numbered the copy number 22.

Contemporary tree calf prize binding, spine elaborately gilt in compartments, red morocco label, gilt floral roll to boards, gilt crest of the Terra Nova School to the upper board, marbled endpapers and edges. Frontispiece and illustrations throughout from photographs. Prize bookplate. Very lightly rubbed at extremities, spine a little faded. Excellent condition. A handsomely bound copy of a later impression, originally published in 1907. This lovely little book is "an attempt to describe by camera and pen the recent rambles of two friends, during the months of May and June, in search of birds and their nests for the purpose of photographing them in and near London". It includes a large number of photographs of British birds (usually stuffed specimens) as well as their nests, eggs, and habitats.
