Front and rear flyleaves are fairly modern crude replacements; text block moderately age toned throughout, with mild occasional foxing. A tight and attractive second printing of this noted "New Testament" issue from the press of the well-known Philadelphia printer (1752-1837); the printing office and home in which this was printed still stands today; it was built in 1730, purchased by Billmeyer in 1789 and is supposedly the site from which George Washington directed his Continental Army forces in the Battle of Germantown. When Billmeyer and his father-in-law set up their Lutheran press in the 1780s, they acquired the surviving equipment of the renowned Philadelphia printer Christopher Saur Jr., whose press the British had destroyed in 1777. Roger Daniel, a 17th-century English printer from Cambridge, published the standard King James version of the Bible (D&M 520). In fact, the popularity of his 1638 Bible lead him not only reissue his Bible but to produce other liturgical texts. The year 1648 proved to be an important year for Daniel as his Bible received an important new edition, but he also published the first edition to his collection catechisms published entirely in Greek.

He published some 900 sermons and began commenting on scripture in 1434, which became immensely popular after Pope Eugene IV promoted his works. Samuel Parker was a 17th-century Bishop of Oxford known for his Calvinist theology and service to James II. While in office, he wrote numerous theological treatises most of which were filled with heavy attacks against dissenters. One such work was his "Religion and Loyalty", first published in 1685. In the second part of this work, published a year later, Parker discusses the state of the early church as it was during the 4th-century reigns of Roman emperors Jovian, Valentinian, Theodosius, among others, through the mid-6th-century and Justinian I.
