Vol. 1 has a couple of bumped corners and very minor rubbing--some dustiness to the uncut page ends. Vol II is near fine with only a slightly darkened spine. Each has a miniature frontispiece--one of George Washington--which was contributed by Howard Pyle and "pupils"--each volume is profusely illustrated with dozens of nicely done illustrations. Revolutionary war story in very collectible condition--and from the Adrian and M.B. Goldstone collection.

A Chapter was added showing the Hundred Years' Progress of the Republic. Contains steel cut illustrations of the presidents as well as wood engravings of the interesting scenes in their lives, together with illustrations of the centennial jubilee. Revised Edition. Published after the death of Abbott in 1877 with a small note at end of page 4 by Russell Conwell. The volume is bound in yellow cloth covers with stamped gilt and black letter/ornamentation on the spine and front cover. The frontispiece depicts George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, and Andrew Johnson. It has small water stain in left corner.

He dedicated his life to the outcasts and the downtrodden. [From his obit]. Uncommon signed and inscribed with a nice association. An important contemporary account of the Civil Rights struggle by Atlanta Journal reporter Watters and editor Cleghorn. Published in the heart of the struggle in 1967 to gain dignity and the ballot.

Straight, tight and clean with no markings, spine-end and corner bumps, light wear to edges, textblock age-toned. Dustjacket unclipped bearing original price, rubs, edge chips, wear to flap folds, large chips to head of spine and rear panel, in new Brodart sleeve. A straightforward, comprehensive, account of Hawaii's dramatic role during WWII based on material collected over a six year period by the Hawaii War Records Depository and written by an Island newspaperwoman with the proper perspective for an unbiased approach to a subject of such massive scope. With black debossed border, corner lines and four bands and gold gilt text to the spine, the brown hardbound cloth boards are in very good condition. There is creasing to the top and bottom of the back strip with light wear and only light wear along the bottom boards. The corners are all sharp with only the slightest touch of wear. Slight cosmetic blemishes to the front and rear boards. Spine is straight with no cracking at the endpapers. The overall text block is solid with all pages firmly attached. Age tanning throughout. Previous owner name written on the front endpaper. All interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks, or other previous owner marks. Fully illustrated with numerous engravings, from designs by W. Croome and other artists. It is also stated "with Additions and Corrections" which might indicate a previous edition (although no prior edition found) or publication in periodicals, etc.
