Richard Le Gallienne (1866–1947) produced a verse translation, subtitled "a paraphrase from several literal translations", in 1897. The Way West is a 1949 western novel by A. B. Guthrie, Jr. (descendant of a family that traveled west).[1] The novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1950. The book became the basis for a film starring Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, and Richard Windmark.The Way West is an account of a wagon-train journey from Independence, Missouri, to Oregon in 1845. On a superficial level, it is a realistic story of a group of pioneers who complete their arduous venture without major disaster.
