The edges are heavily worn and rounded, exposing the boards at the tips. No lettering on spine; if there were any labels on the panels, they are gone. Minor fraying at the head of the spine. Covers are rubbed and scuffed with small stains. The front free endpaper and following flyleaf are detached but present; both are chipped at the edges. Front free endpaper has an old name in ink, partially transferred to the front endpaper. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Binding along left edge consists of two sets of four holes stabbed through the paper, with white silk threads forming an X on the back and two knots on the front. Spine is not covered. Color woodblock illustrations on covers and many pages. Front cover has illustration of a Samurai and animals in Samurai costumes at a gated entrance.
