Description:
New York: E. P. Dutton, 1943. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Book condition is Very Good; with a Very Good dust jacket. Edge wear to jacket, including a few chips. Two scuffs to paper at jacket rear panel. Minor foxing. Crease to bottom corner of a few pages. Text is clean and unmarked, frontispiece. First Edition is stated, first issue jacket present. An inscription as vibrant and humble as would be expected of Guthrie; written upside down, one can picture the book being handed to Guthrie and him signing before rotating the book. Guthrie tells the recipient, Marshall, "I hope you find some real 'fight' in this book..." Inscription is dated to April 1943, a few weeks after the book's publication. It would be difficult to underestimate Guthrie's influence on American folk music and as well as American popular music. As academic arguments persist about the great American novel, Guthrie's musical work and this book itself are distinctly American in attitude, imagery and… Read More

Description:
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1974. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Book condition is Near Fine; with a Near Fine dust jacket. Minimal edge wear to jacket. Weak crease to jacket crown at front panel. Group of stains inside front cover, appears to be from adhesive used in manufacturing process (see photos). Text is clean and unmarked. First Edition is stated. A wonderful association, inscribed "Ed Wilson kindred spirit," providing an affectionate snippet of the relationship between these two major figures in the history of the natural sciences. Both men spent time at Harvard. Though Freud could be said to be the most paradigmatic figure of modern psychology, Skinner could be said to be equally influential as one of the founders of behaviorism and a major figure in the establishment of psychology as an empirical science. ; Signed and inscribed by the author, B. F. Skinner, to Pulitzer-winning naturalist Edward (Ed) Wilson. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 256 pages; Signed by Author.

Crease to jacket at front panel. Thumb-nail size chip to jacket base at spine. Corners of flaps are clipped, however original publisher price remains intact. Text is clean and unmarked. First Printing is stated. A brilliant association, inscribed "for von Quine." The inscription appropriately appears to read "van Quine," "Van" being the name Quine was known by to those close to him. Quine and Skinner were colleagues at Harvard, and this lovely inscription captures a moment in the crossing lives of these two highly influential figures. ; Signed and inscribed by the author, B. F. (Fred) Skinner, to philosopher and logician W. V. O. Quine. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Signed by Author.

Description:
No date. Near Fine, single page from watermarked Hotel Belles-Rives paper, typed and boldly signed by Marc Chagall. Toning to bottom edge of paper, minimal wear, very well-preserved. One corrected typed character, covered with white-out. An unusual and emotive artist statement/poem, by Chagall, based on his work "The Apparition (1917-1918)," describing in beautiful imagery a "dream" "evoked" in Chagall. Chagall had reported that the painting was based his memory of a dream while a student; this statement either stands in captivating juxtaposition with that original dream, or is an allusion to, or perhaps description of, that dream. Lovely, rare, unique. Certificate of Authenticity included. [Image in listing of painting for illustrative purposes only; no prints, etc., included].

Description:
Zurich, 1940. Written in both pen and pencil by Jung on a single sheet torn from his notepad. Very Good, toned and with bottom corner of paper missing, not affecting text. Jung quotes Isaiah 9:1, in writing to his mentee, Dr. Rivkah Scharf: "Isaiah IX, 1 / The People that walk in darkness shall see a great light, they that swell in the last of the shadow of death, light shall shine upon them." Note is then signed by Jung, "Best regards / Your C.G. Jung." Original mailing envelope also included. Wonderful piece providing a glimpse into the less formalized communications more often seen between Jung and his colleagues and mentees, and perhaps a glimpse into the Personality 2 of Jung making communication, also filled, it seems, with deep empathy and understanding for self and perhaps Dr. Sharf as well. Jung's impacts across clinical psychology and the humanities cannot be understated. Piece accompanied by Letter of Authenticity.
