The friendship album of Teresa de Puelma Orrego (1861 -?), wife of Juan Antonio Orrego Gonzalez, Chile's Secretary of War from 1893-1894 and grandmother of the renowned Chilean composer Juan Antonio Orrego Salas. Bound in black textured cloth, Teresa's name in calligraphic gilt front cover, all edges gilt, decorative end papers. 40 thick paper pages, 6 blank, 34 pages with some written on both sides, 17 pages of text, mostly in the form of letters and cards pasted in, and approximately 50 autograph names. Most dated items from the year 1884, with an 1851 dated letter from Theresa's grandmother to her mother the earliest item. Very Good, front joint split, rear joint starting, the binding still holding well. Highspots include an 1893 ALS SIGNED by the President of the Republic of Chile, Jorge Montti offeringcondolences on the death of his father Don Francisco Puelma to Juan Antonio Orrego Gonzalez [Secretary of War under Monti]; a hand-drawn and hand-colored map signed by Boonen Rivera dated Santiago, Chile, Enero 20/84 titled "Chorrillos I Miraflores 13, 15 Enero" depicting the battles of Chorrillos and Miraflores during the 1881 War of the Pacific fought between Chile and Peru (Jorge Boonen Rivera, at that time a junior officer who later became a General and Minister of Chile)[ map not found in any online searches]; and a lovely pencil drawing by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon, known for his design of the Egyptian Museum in 1896.
