(Naples), Stamperia de Marco, (ca. 1850). Oblong 8vo. Bound in contemporary half cloth with marbled paper boards, gilt spine. Salvatore de Marco was one of the three most prominent publishers of the early neapolitan canzonas, he is also credited as composer of one of the songs. Contains 20 songs by the composer Pietro Labriola (1820-1900), three by Francesco Ruggi, two by Battista, three by Eduardo de Quartery, and with songs by several others. This charming collection includes versions of ”Lo guarracino”, ”Te voglio bene assaje” and a very early imprint of the famous ”Santa Lucia” (”Vera barcarola populare il barcajuola di Santa Lucia”) and many more. These canzone imprints by Marco are rare; Biblioteca dell'Accademia filarmonica records 10 of them (dated 185?), Biblioteca nazionale Vittorio Emanuele III records 20.
