New York: Scribners, 1906. Limited edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Vierge, Daniel. 4 volume set, each one numbered (#33) from the first 140 copies printed on Imperial Japan paper, with two additional full page illustrations (one each in volumes 1 and 4) and with "extra prints, before letter, of all the full page illustrations." From a total edition of 1150. 4to, 3/4 ivory leather over cream cloth decorated in gilt. All edges gilt. Lavishly illustrated throughout by Daniel Vierge with tissue guarded plates and in-text drawings. Introduction by Royal Cortissoz. The entire edition for the United States was 985 with another 165 copies separately numbered and imprinted for publication in Great Britain by T. Fisher Unwin. Fingering marks on spine leather (which might be cleaned entirely off), else fine, without previous owner's names or bookplates. Quite scarce thus. The illustrations are beautifully reproduced on this "Imperial Japan" paper.

New York: Heritage Press, 1946. Limited edition. Hardcover. Fine. Szyk, Arthur. A limited edition of 1,000, this collection of Arthur Szyk's work was inscribed by the artist to each subscriber. Lengthy (17 page) Prefatory remarks by Strothers Burt. Frontis plus four more full color plates and 74 monochrome lithographic drawings in sepia. The color plates are lovely works showing the people and symbols of America, Russia, France and England, with brilliant colors and painted in his amazing miniaturist detail. Large 4to (9" x 12 1/2"), full black morocco. Handmade endpapers match the paper-covered slipcase, done in a geometric design not unlike Batik. Fine, no previous owner's marks. Box is slightly faded at one end, light wear to the rounded slipcase guides at top and bottom. With an introduction by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, 44 mounted and tissue guarded color plates with letter-press captions and additional line drawings throughout the text. Full oxblood morocco binding by Bayntun (Riviere) Bath England with marbled endpapers, #468 of 1300 signed by Rackham. As part of the custom binding process all page edges were trimmed and gilded so this volume is slightly smaller than the publisher's bound edition. Light foxing to frontis tissue guard not affecting the plate or title page. The gilt doublures have darkened the margins of the front free endpaper, the tips are lightly worn with a short, unobtrusive tear to top of spine, rubbing to edges, but still a nice bright copy.

London: Harrap, 1919. Limited edition. Hardcover. Very Good plus. Clarke, Harry. #151 of 170 copies signed and numbered by Harry Clarke. 4to full vellum, 24 full page black and white plates with tissue guards. This was before the color plates were added to later editions—this is the only signed limited of all the editions. Quite scarce today. Gilt spine titles and small gilt illustration on the front cover, bordered by a design of chains & hearts all in gilt. Top edge gilt. The vellum is separating from boards at top of pastedown endpapers, very slightly in front, about 2 1/2 inches in rear. Modest bowing to boards and a little unevenness to the spine spine. Modest darkening to covers. Without previous ownership markings. No foxing, interior pages very clean. A solid copy of the scarcest of all Clarke titles and the most reprinted of them all, proving its popularity over the last 100 years. Signed by Clarke.

Folio, full cream cloth, silhoutte border designs and titles all in full gilt. Twelve tipped-in full color plates (beautifully printed) by Thomas MacKenzie. Captioned tissue guards plus line drawings and page decorations in black throughout. Top edge gilt. Spine quite darkened and a bit worn. Cloth edges modestly sunned while cover gilt remains bright. Back cover moderately soiled. Light rippling to right front panel border. Interior fine. Printed on very heavy, hand-made paper, uncut. Profusely decorated throughout. This is MacKenzie's finest book; he did only a few titles, but this is the only one that received the full gift book treatment. Not a surprise, given the late date of this, when the gift book market was winding down after World War I. His style is reminiscent of Edmund Dulac's eastern, oriental paintings, but his work is uniquely his own, bringing in detail… Read More

Full color illustrations throughout by the author, full color pictorial endpapers, reproduced from Tudor's original handlettered manuscript. A hint of wear to extremeties, slight toning to endpapers, label from Portland Oregon bookstore affixed to rear pastedown, else fine in toned, unclipped dj, no previous owner's marks.

London: Hodder & Stoughton, n.d.. Limited edition. vellum. Near Fine. Robinson, W.H.. Limited edition. Full vellum pictorial cover and spine in gilt, green and red. 30 color tipped-in plates on cream-colored boards with printed borders. Printed tissue guards. 60 illustrations in line, some full page. Printed on hand-made paper. This was a popular title, one of Robinson's most well-received, and went through several subsequent editions but with reduced size and number of color plates. Boards are very slightly warped. Light spotting on right hand cover edge, very minor soiling from handling. A exceptionally handsome copy of one of Robinson's finest limited editions, with symbolic representations using women as goddesses depicting the far-flung colonies of the English empire at that time: Bombay, Singapore, Capetown, Madras, as well as celebrating British sea-going prowess and bravery.

Binding A cover variant, blue-green cloth, curly ampersand on spine logo. Variant A of the copyright notice. (Bienvenue: The Book Collector's Guide to L. Frank Baum and Oz). 16 full-color inserts including title page, green and orange illustrated endpapers. Previous owner's names on second blank page, one in pencil, one in ink, otherwise an exceptionally nice copy of a scarce edition.

London: Philip Lee Warner/Medici Society, 1910. Limited edition. Hardcover. Fine. Flint, W. Russell. #395 of 500 numbered copies from an edition of 512. 4 quarto volumes, full limp vellum. Printed on handmade Riccardi paper, top edge gilt, other edges uncut. 48 mounted color plates by W. Russell Flint with captioned tissue guards. Laid in are two bookmarks advertising the press and one folded sheet listing more titles. The green ribbon ties are all present, but two are truncated on volumes 1 and 3. Later editions of this popular work reduced the number of volumes and illustrations, first to 2 volumes with only 36 plates then down to one volume with 24 of the luminous plates.

London: A. & C. Black, 1931. 1st UK edition. Hardcover. Outhwaite, Ida Rentoul. First UK edition. 47 full page illustrations including 16 color plates. Pictorial endpapers. Outhwaite is the best known children's illustrator to come out of Australia. This is her best book, suitable oversized with superb full page illustrations throughout. Corners all modestly bumped, spine slightly sunned, some small dark stains to the backcover. Light foxing throughout although none to the color plates, which are printed on glossy stock. The frontis is loose and lightly worn at the right edge. Binding is otherwise tight. Still, a handsome copy of a fragile and uncommon book.

New York: The Museum of Modern Art, 1993. Limited edition. Hardcover. Lawrence, Jacob. #98 of 100 copies specially bound and signed by Lawrence. Oblong 4to, full blue cloth stamped in gilt in matching slipcase with color cover plate of one of the 60 panels depicting the great Black migration from the agricultural south to the industrial northern cities. Text by Walter Dean Myers accompanies each painting. A fine bright copy of a scarce book with a hint of wear to the gilt titling on the slipcase.

Signed by Lindsay on the limitation page. Twelve mounted plates of his drawings interleaved with illustrated title pages for each plate. Wear to tips, bumped top corner, still a handsome copy of a scace volume.
