Description:
Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1941. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good-/Fair. First Edition, same date of 1941 on title and copyright pages, no additional printings; grey/beige cloth, vg- (cocked; top edge darkened; spine ends and corners bumped; boards soiled; discoloration to eps from dj) in a fair first-state dj. Apparently no copies better than about 'good' of this dj exist, due to its ill-advised design. This one has the window, with rippled edges, still attached to the black paper at the bottom and the left side towards the spine (with some tears). The top of the front panel is missing, and the front flap (with $2.00 price) is detached. Elsewhere there are many chips and tears, but the text (blurb by Louis Untermeyer) on the rear panel is intact; tears repaired on inside by non-acidic Filmoplast. 183 pp.

WONDERFUL OLD BOOK, INTRODUCTION BY DRYDEN, LIFE OF VIRGIL/ MARO. PREFACE TO PASTORALS, VIRGILS GEORGICS.
VERY INTERESTING.
John Dryden (19 August 1631 – 12 May 1700) was an English poet, literary critic, translator, and playwright who was appointed England's first Poet Laureate in 1668. In 1694 he began work on what would be his most ambitious and defining work as translator, The Works of Virgil (1697), which was published by subscription.
Publius Vergilius Maro (; traditional dates 15 October 70 BC – 21 September 19 BC), usually called Virgil or Vergil in English, was an ancient Roman poet of the Augustan period. He composed three of the most famous poems in Latin literature: the Eclogues (or Bucolics), the Georgics, and the epic Aeneid.

Description:
Printed for F. Style. London.,1739. FIRST, AND ONLY, EDITION. 8vo. Front wrapper, ii,28pp. Lacking the half title but with the rare printed front wrapper (showing the price of Six Pence) laid down and bound in. Text complete. Top edge of pages have been cut and gilded, the others are untrimmed. Pages a bit marked and rubbed but overall a very good example. The original front wrapper has some small areas of loss to the edges and corners and has been professionally laid down. Bound in modern half red crushed morocco by C. Walters. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind. Compartments lettered in gilt. Boards with dark red cloth. Burgundy endpapers. Previous owners bookplate (Douglas Peter Crossman, Earl Stonham) on front pastedown endpaper. Overall a very good copy of this uncommon political satire, mocking the supporters of George II and Prince James Stuart, the Old pretender. Not in Halkett & Laing.:
