This is a very nice condition, rare, original issue of "Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper" from December 5, 1863. This issue contains the complete text of Abraham Lincoln's GETTYSBURG ADDRESS, as well as a first-hand reporter's account of the "celebration" ("The day was lovely; the sky unclouded, and all around seemed to harmonise in quiet beauty with the solemn occasion...At the close President Lincoln addressed the assembly: 'Fourscore and seven years ago...'"). Also featured in this issue is a wonderful 2-page centerfold with various detailed engravings (7 in all) of the "dedication ceremony," including a terrific panoramic illustration of "The consecration of the Great National Ceremony near Gettysburg, Thursday, Nov. 19, by Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, and his cabinet."
Condition:
The issue is in overall very good condition with only some small tears along the edges and a few at the center crease; there is a very light stain at the top-left corner of page 175 and some random, light foxing spots in a few outer margins. No writing.

Hand drawn map on laid paper. 16 x 34 cm. Has been folded. Edge chips, small hole. Edge staining. Good. The map depicts a camp with symbols of canons, along Fox Creek and Little Fox River. Notation on verso "Plan of Camp May 9, 1779." On left corner: "Hedq [Headquarters] of God____." There are a few possible locations based on the name Little Fox River, but perhaps the most likely seems to be in what was then referred to as the Northwest Territory, in present day Illinois, some 58 miles south of Vincennes, because there are recorded military activities in the area in the timeframe. In December 1778 the British took Ft. Sackville, in Vincennes on the Wabash River along the border of present day Illinois and Indiana. Then in February 1779 American forces under George Rogers Clark retook the fort, re-naming it Ft. Patrick Henry. "In… Read More

He lived for some years among the Indians, and, on occasion, acted as parish priest or professor of philosophy. His book, published after his return, caused a great sensation, for it was the first to give the world a description of the vast regions from which all foreigners had been jealously excluded by the Spanish authorities.
