Minor evidence of rubbing, tiny area of light speckling to front board, still a nice copy. FIRST EDITION. Ernest Peixotto (1869–1940) was a noted American artist and illustrator. During World War I, he served as a captain in charge of a group of painters appointed by the U.S. Army to depict the war.

Peixotto illustrated Theodore Roosevelt's Life of Oliver Cromwell (1904). In the fall of 1907, he was teaching at the Art Institute of Chicago, where Thomas Hart Benton was his student.
