About This Item
Berlin: Verlag der Buchergilde Gutenberg, 1927. First edition, 2nd state. Hardcover. Very Good. 213pp. Small quarto [24 cm] Light orange cloth covered boards with an orange ink stamped title on the spine, and dark orange and pale green decorative ink stamped designs on the spine and front cover. Publisher's green topstain. The boards are subtly soiled. The endpapers are discolored along the hinges, and just a bit along the edges. With a supplied slipcase of plain brown cloth over boards. Treverton 244, Recknagel 440, Hagemann 45, Farmer 1. The first line on page 18 does not end with "und," but ends with "badeten." B. Traven's early life is a jungle of conjecture, myth, and misdirection. Even today, with access to both the Traven archives in Mexico and the Marut archives at the University of California at Riverside, nothing is known about his childhood, his parents, or even the name he was born with." - Edward N. Treverton.
