Royal Marines conquer another Antarctic Peak. Pictures just received from the Royal Navy's Ice Patrol Ship H.M.S. Protector, taken during the successful climb to the top of the hitherto unscaled 9,000 feet Mount Gaudry, highest mountain on Adelaide Island inside the Antarctic Circle... made the final ten hour ascent in a night assault cutting steps and hand holds in a steep ice face... *Pictured on the way down, a thousand feet from the peak of Mount Gaudry. Mr John Green (left) and Captain T Wills had to build a snow hold and shelter for 18 hours during a blizzard. The photograph was taken by Marine McAuliffe.
