Large format hardcover, no publishing date but likely a later nineteenth century publication, 1/4 leather and pebbled cloth, five raised spine-bands, bright gold title and tooling, all edges gilt, apparently rebound with the original covers but sturdy new end-papers, 120 beautiful steel engravings by several artists grace this 292-page publication, the binding is tight and clean and the engravings and the text are in excellent condition, the only wear is to the cover: a closed rectangular tear to the cloth on the back cover, the leather shows some wear near the edges of the corners and along the edges of the spine, quite a find .
