Geistinger, Marie. A theatrical playbill (36 cm X 13 cm) advertisement, with a likeness of the famous Viennese operetta star, taken from a New York German language newspaper for Marie Geistinger (1836 – 1903), appearing at the Thalia Theater in 1881, presented there by Gustav Amberg, at age 44, with great success. Geistinger appeared at the Thalia Theater (formerly the New Bowery Theater), on Chambers Street between Broadway and Centre Street, in Die schöne Galathee, described on the playbill as 'a Roman-mythological Opera in One Act' by Franz von Suppé (whose full name was Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo, Cavaliere Suppé-Demelli). Also on this program were Das Versprechen hinter'in herd (The Promise Behind the Stove) and Eine vollkommene Frau (A Complete Woman) described respectively as singspiel and luftspiel. Condition is remarkably good. $350.00
